This is one of the most-searched Instagram questions there is, and the honest answer is: Instagram will never show you this directly, but you can get an exact answer yourself in a few minutes, for free, without giving anyone your password.
Why this isn’t a built-in feature
Instagram’s own app shows you your followers list and your following list, but not the difference between them — there’s no filter, no toggle, nothing that says “show me who’s in one list but not the other.” You’d have to scroll through both lists and manually cross-reference, which is realistic for an account with 40 connections and completely unrealistic for one with 4,000.
That gap is exactly what third-party “follow back checker” apps promise to fill — and it’s also exactly the point where a lot of them ask for something they don’t need: your Instagram login.

- Request your data export.
